The Team addresses the important qualities, skills, and competencies that young people need to be successful and productive workers. Children and youth need basic reading and computing skills, creative thinking skills, problem solving abilities and attitudes that lead to successful and productive lives. Educational reform efforts are needed to ensure students are engaged in relevant, challenging and experiential (hands-on) learning. This includes knowledge of economics and business, and exposure to internships, career counseling, and visits to work sites.

Team members are assessing the needs of youth most in need of skills and supports to obtain marketable skills. Need areas have been identified and three Task Forces will: (1) study and recommend actions for working effectively with students K-12, whose primary language is other than English, (2) gather information on a variety of educational Alternatives to conventional schooling, including small schools and distant learning models, and (3) look at early childhood education and seek to affiliate with agencies and institutions in an effort to assess needs in Boca Raton. The Education Team is developing criteria for members on the task forces. Call (561) 395-3063 for information.
