Promise 2 - "Friday Friends" - An After-School Arts Program
Friday Friends”, an after-school creative arts program has added photography and expanded to two elementary schools in February, 2006. Denise Felice, school nurse at Coral Sunset and an award-winning photographer, has been named director.

The program provides 4th and 5th graders at Coral Sunset and Hammock Pointe Elementary Schools with digital cameras, plenty of craft materials, and meaningful dialogue to help them discover themselves. Self identity is the goal.

They create projects which engage them in viewing themselves in activities at school, at home, and in the community.

Sessions are held for two hours every Friday during the school year. Activity and camp scholarships are provided to participating youth during the summer.

Assisting are Laura Poggerale and consultants: Jeanne Mier and Dr. Cynthia Silverman.

The program is funded with a $10,000 gift from the Sun-Sentinel Children’s Fund, a fund of the McCormick Tribune Foundation.

America's Promise: America's Promise is a collaborative network that builds upon the collective power of communities and partners to help fulfill the Five Promises for every young person in America.
